My first feature film, Cosmic Battles, grossed thirteen dollars.

Tickets were 7¢ a pop.

I was ten.

I didn’t just make the movie…

My BFF and I wrote the script, recruited neighborhood kids as actors, edited the film, opened a theater, and sold tickets to the same kids who starred in it.

That impulse… to create something people love, build a business around it, and do it again… never let go of me.

It ran through candy stores, haunted houses, music software, rock bands, industrial design, animation, and eventually Impossible Pictures, the creative studio I helmed for twenty years.

Looking back, I wasn’t chasing different careers. I was chasing one big question:

How do creative people build businesses that unleash them to create their greatest work?
