The National Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) Institute is the first national public- and private-sector initiative dedicated to equipping every employer to become a Recovery Friendly Workplace — a place that actively supports current and prospective employees in recovery from, or affected by, substance use disorder.

Launched by the Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Institute's formation was announced at a White House press briefing in November 2023, with former Governor Chris T. Sununu. It scaled the Recovery Friendly Workplace model — which began in New Hampshire in 2018 — into a national, research-informed framework and standardized certification built around four pillars: culture, hiring and retention, benefits, and education. The work of the Institute continues to be supported by the White House Administration.
