Shar Khentrul Jamphel Lodrö Rinpoche spent his first twenty years in Tibet, herding yaks and chanting mantras before leaving home to pursue monastic training. He studied under more than twenty-five teachers across eleven monasteries, eventually becoming Khenpo of Dzamthang Tsangwa Monastery.

He is recognized as a Rimé, or non-sectarian, master and identified as the reincarnation of the Kalachakra master Ngawang Chözin Gyatso, a title confirmed by the Dalai Lama in 2003. He has received the Kalachakra empowerment more than forty times and bestowed it over thirty-five times across nearly every continent, and he founded Dzokden to preserve and share the Jonang-Shambhala Kalachakra lineage.
