The Equine Practice, Inc. was founded by Dr. Geoff Tucker, a Cornell-educated veterinarian who has floated the teeth of more than 85,000 horses since 1983. Over years of practice, he developed a horsemanship-based approach to equine dental work built on connection and trust rather than sedation.

In 2014, Dr. Tucker and Melissa Colburn opened the Horsemanship Dentistry School to teach other horse professionals this method. The school trains students to combine horsemanship skills with dental technique, and its graduates are certified in Horsemanship Dentistry after meeting the program's standards.
