Andrew Noakes studied history at Cambridge University before spending nearly a decade in politics, then moved into freelance editing while writing his own historical novel. Editing work for other historical fiction writers became the bigger draw, and demand for it grew faster than he could keep up with on his own. That led him to bring on more editors and formalize what became The History Quill, a company built specifically around the needs of historical fiction writers.
