About

Cameron McEvoy is an Australian sprint freestyler and the first male swimmer from his country to reach four consecutive Summer Olympics. He won Olympic gold in the 50m freestyle in Paris in 2024 at the age of 30, took the world title in the event in 2025, and in March 2026 swam 20.88 to break a world record that had stood since the super-suit era. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics from Griffith University.

The gold medal followed a decision most coaches would have called reckless: he tore up his training programme entirely, cutting from around 30 kilometres of swimming a week to roughly two and shifting the work into the gym, borrowing from track athletics and cycling. That experiment is the origin of the McEvoy Method. His interest is less in swimming more and more in understanding exactly which work produces speed, which is the thinking he now teaches to other sprinters and coaches.
